Green Scene mows homes and commercial properties in Franklin, Brentwood and Nashville on a set schedule, with trimming and edging done on the same visit. The deck height follows the grass: three inches for tall fescue, one to two inches for zoysia, and on bermuda, only the top third of the blade per cut. Each property gets its own mowing and edging plan, and the estimate is free.
Mowing is where the company began. Jose Garcia started it with one push mower. The crews now run zero-turn and professional-grade machines, an Exmark and a John Deere among them.
How high should each type of grass be cut?
Cutting too high or too low both damage a lawn, and the right number depends on which of the three local grasses you have.
| Grass | Cut | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tall fescue | 3 inches | It grows best between 1½ and 3 inches. Scalped lower, it loses moisture, dries out, thins and lets weeds in. |
| 419 Tifway bermuda | No more than ⅓ of the blade per cut | Only the top third of the plant is green; below that is brown stem. Take more and the yard turns brown and stalls for a while. |
| Zoysia | 1 to 2 inches | Its blades carry a lot of silica and toughen as they lengthen. Let it get tall and the next cut scalps it. |
One of the most common mistakes is fescue mowed short. It looks tidy for a week, then it starts drying out and thinning. Bermuda is tough enough to recover from a bad cut, but it takes a while to green back up. Zoysia simply needs to be cut on time, every time.
Will your crews mow a steep yard?
Yes. The terrain in Middle Tennessee is hilly and sometimes steep, and plenty of yards here have a grade that makes a homeowner think twice about mowing it. The crews cut those hills as routine work, and the zero-turn mowers keep the flatter stretches quick so the visit doesn't drag.
Is trimming and edging part of every visit?
It is. Trimming around the beds, trees and fences and edging along the drive and walks are part of the mowing plan, not extras added to the bill later. The plan written for your property says how often each happens through the season.
Shrubs, beds and tree pruning are a separate service. If you want those kept up on the same schedule, add landscape maintenance to the plan.
Does good mowing mean fescue never needs reseeding?
No, though it helps a lot. Fescue needs overseeding regardless. Mowing it at three inches slows the thinning; it doesn't stop it. Fall is the season to put new seed down, and the crew that mows your yard all summer is in a good position to point out the patches that need it. Overseeding has the timing.
Do you mow for businesses as well as homes?
Both. Green Scene mows residential and commercial properties, and the commitment on either is the same: the crew shows up on the day it's scheduled. The office on Mealer Street keeps that calendar. Antonio Estrada in customer service takes the calls about the work itself.
